On the Panchang the civil date follows the civil day before Tai 1 (Thai Pongal). For Telugu/Kannada calendars, the civil day before Makara Saṅkrānti. Because tithi and nakṣatra boundaries are reckoned from local sunrise, the same observance can fall a day earlier or later in another city.
