Question 1

What does “today” mean on this Panchang?

Accepted Answer

The civil day follows local sunrise at the place you set in the header. Tithi, nakshatra and muhurta can change overnight; another city may observe a different calendar date.

Question 2

Why does the city matter?

Accepted Answer

Sunrise, sunset, and therefore tithi, nakshatra boundaries and muhurta tables are computed for your coordinates (Swiss Ephemeris, Lahiri). Local temple or family custom may still differ.

Question 3

Which regional calendar should I use?

Accepted Answer

Choose Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, or Odia in the header. Month names, festival lists, and era labels (including Kārtikādi Vikram Saṃvat for Gujarati and Baisakha solar months for Odia Panji) follow that tradition; the astronomical timings stay the same.
