Charak / Gājan is the Śiva devotees’ festival on Chaitra Saṅkrānti — the Bengali year-end day before Pohelā Boiśākh.
On the Panchang the civil date follows the civil day before Meṣa Saṅkrānti. Because tithi and nakṣatra boundaries are reckoned from local sunrise, the same observance can fall a day earlier or later in another city.
