Bodhāyana Amāvāsai is the Darśa day that families of the Bodhāyana sūtra compute on their own for tarpaṇa. The rule looks at how Caturdaśī, Amāvāsyā and Pratipadā spread across the ritual window. In some months this brings their Amāvāsyā a day before the one printed for other sūtras. How the day is fixed: The day is computed from how Caturdaśī, Amāvāsyā and Pratipadā fall across the ritual window around the new moon. It is not simply the Amāvāsyā printed for other sūtras. Keep in mind: It is not always a day earlier. In many months it matches the ordinary Amāvāsyā. This year: The 2027 date shown here is worked out from sunrise at the place you chose, so in another city the same day can fall a day earlier or later. Darśa tarpaṇa: Bodhāyana households offer their Darśa tarpaṇa on this date, with sesame and water for the ancestors. Families of other sūtras: If your family follows Āpastamba or another sūtra, keep the ordinary Amāvāsyā instead. Worth remembering: The ordinary monthly Amāvāsyā is kept separately, and so is Mahālaya Amāvāsyā, which closes Pitṛ Pakṣa. Which sūtra a family follows is part of its inheritance, and the Darśa day follows from it. Bodhāyana households keep their own reckoning even when neighbours offer on a different day. Follow the way your own house elders have kept the monthly tarpaṇa.
