Paṇā Saṅkrānti is Meṣa Saṅkrānti — Odia new year, bel paṇā and Caṇḍī pūjā. Pohelā Boiśākh, Puthaṇḍu, and Viṣu are other solar new years; they stay on their own pages. On the Panchang the civil date follows meṣa Saṅkrānti on the local sunrise civil day. Because tithi and nakṣatra boundaries are reckoned from local sunrise, the same observance can fall a day earlier or later in another city. Bel fruit, yoghurt, and spices are ground into paṇā and offered at dawn. The Odia san year increments with this Meṣa ingress. Pohelā Boiśākh is the Bengali solar new year on the same ingress. This page is only Paṇā Saṅkrānti. Dates below for 2027 are computed from sunrise at your selected place. The same vrata can fall on an adjacent civil day in another city.
