கிரகணம்

நாளின் மகத்துவம்

Sūrya grahaṇa is the day the Moon passes across the face of the Sun. Tradition treats those hours as a time set apart, when the hearth stays cold and food waits. The bath and the gift made after the release are held to bring great merit. A solar eclipse always falls on an Amāvāsyā, though only a few new moons bring one.

பஞ்சாங்க விதியும் கணிப்பும்

  • How the day is fixed: A solar eclipse can come only on Amāvāsyā, when the new Moon lies close enough to its node to cover the Sun. The pañcāṅga for that day gives the first contact, the middle and the release in local time.
  • Keep in mind: Sūtaka applies only where the eclipse is visible. Another city may see it while yours does not, so check the local pañcāṅga if your family keeps a stricter rule than visibility.
  • This year: The 2027 date shown here is worked out from sunrise at the place you chose, so in another city the same day can fall a day earlier or later.

வழிபாடும் அனுஷ்டானங்களும்

  • Sūtaka and food: Houses that keep the grahaṇa do not light the hearth during sūtaka. Where it is the family rule, nothing is eaten while the eclipse is visible.
  • Bath and dāna: When the eclipse ends the household bathes. After the release a gift of rice, cloth or a coin is given.
  • At the temple: A temple may stay open during the eclipse and still hold back the main pūjā until mokṣa.
  • Worth remembering: Every solar eclipse falls on an Amāvāsyā, but a new moon with no eclipse is simply Amāvāsyā and keeps its own observances.

குடும்ப மரபும் ஆசாரமும்

Eclipse customs differ from house to house. Some families keep a stricter clock than visibility, others observe only the visible span, and the gift given afterwards changes from region to region. Follow what the elders of your own house have always done.
