Lunar Eclipse 2026 in Houston

நாளின் மகத்துவம்

Chandra grahaṇa is the night the Earth's shadow falls across the full Moon. It is kept with the same care as a solar eclipse: food waits during sūtaka, a bath follows the release and a small gift is given. Because the Moon is held to be the light of the pitṛs, some families also offer tarpaṇa to their ancestors afterwards. A lunar eclipse comes almost always on a Pūrṇimā night.

பஞ்சாங்க விதியும் கணிப்பும்

• How the day is fixed: A lunar eclipse falls on the Pūrṇimā night when the Earth's shadow reaches the Moon at your place. The date shown is that night for the city you have chosen, with its times in local time.
• Keep in mind: The day's pañcāṅga shows sūtaka only when the eclipse is visible at your place. A full moon with no eclipse is simply Pūrṇimā.
• This year: The 2026 date shown here is worked out from sunrise at the place you chose, so in another city the same day can fall a day earlier or later.

வழிபாடும் அனுஷ்டானங்களும்

• Sūtaka and bath: Houses that keep sūtaka pause meals while it lasts. Once the shadow leaves the Moon they bathe and give a small dāna.
• Pitṛ tarpaṇa: Some families offer tarpaṇa to the ancestors after a lunar eclipse. This is family custom and not a separate festival.
• Monthly Pūrṇimā fast: If the house keeps a monthly Pūrṇimā fast, that rule still stands. The eclipse only adds sūtaka and the closing bath.
• Worth remembering: Guru Pūrṇimā, Śarad Pūrṇimā, Nāralī Pūrṇimā and Kumāra Pūrṇimā are named full moons with their own vratas. An eclipse on such a night does not replace them.

குடும்ப மரபும் ஆசாரமும்

How strictly a lunar eclipse is kept changes from family to family and region to region. Some houses follow a stricter clock than visibility, others observe only the span when the shadow is seen, and tarpaṇa is offered only where it is the family custom. Follow the way the elders of your own house have kept it.
